The United States came into the 4x400-meter relays at the World Athletics Championships as the heavy favorites. Team USA had won seven of the previous eight world championships in the event.

And the final men’s track event of Oregon22 didn’t disappoint, as Elija Godwin, Michael Norman, Bryce Deadmon and Champion Allison won the gold medal in two minutes, 56.17 seconds.

As he does in every relay, Godwin put Team USA in a great position from the jump. Godwin finished the first lap in 44.28, over a second ahead of anyone else. Norman, the champion in the men’s 400-meter race, finished the second lap in 43.64.

Deadmon finished his lap in 43.82 and Allison hit the final lap in 44.43.

Jamaica came in second place in 2:58.58 and Belgium came in third in 2:58.72.
