OK, so the Interstate Bridge planners have three problems:
1. If you build it high enough to accommodate river traffic, it interferes with air traffic at Portland International Airport. 2. If you build it low enough to accommodate air traffic, it interferes with river traffic. 3. If you build a draw bridge which can accommodate both air and river traffic, you interfere with vehicle traffic.
Has anyone even considered a tunnel under the river? Surely, if they can tunnel under the English Channel, we can tunnel under the Columbia River and accommodate all traffic? We could call it the Colunnel.
