About 60 people marched through the streets of Eugene on Saturday evening, protesting the city’s role as host of the World Athletics Championships as thousands of spectators and competitors gathered a mile away for the event’s penultimate night at Hayward Field.

Organized by Eugene Housing and Neighborhood Defense, a local group of housing activists, the rally opposed the forced removal of the city’s unhoused population ahead of the event, as well as Nike, city officials and local police.
